Sights: Glen Arbor, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, & Lake Michigan

People don’t always get why we love Michigan. They don’t fully understand the greatness of The Great Lakes.

From visiting family in Metro Detroit, we headed towards Glen Arbor, MI. Our good family friend, Barbara, owns a piece of land we planned to boondock on. It was our first time using the solar panel and it was a total must have!!

The Glen Lake area is truly one of a kind. Just a ten minute drive to the majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes – where the sights are breathtaking and the dunes are awe-inspiring.

For anyone who doesn’t know the native legend of Sleeping Bear Dunes, read this!

The dunes area have lots of trail, many of which end at the top of a dune overlooking Lake Michigan. We hiked to Pyramid Point with some friends and enjoyed the fantastic view.

Barbara and Rebecca drove us through Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, we stopped at many overlooks.

We were dying to jump into Lake Michigan so we went to the nearby town of Empire for the beach. We decided to walk along the shoreline towards the dunes with the dogs.

In the evening, we traveled a short thirty minutes to Traverse City for the 90th Annual National Cherry Festival. Traverse City is an awesome little town, located on a beautiful bay with many boutique shops, good dining, open space and of course cherries.

And to finish our visit, we watched the sun set over Glen Lake. We think the best sunsets are on the west side of Michigan.
